Banned and Challenged

I realized I have only read a few books in the Banned and challenged books list, such as Fahrenheit 451, how to kill a mocking bird and the Harry Potter series. These are one of the most classics stories that is from different writers coming from the crazy mind. However from the banned and culture book list we can tell the people are killing the culture. As a culture is a representation of the people's style in that place, banning the books in the list are actually hiding the real culture of the North America. However, I do agree that kids should be protected by mature literature, such as topics about sex, drugs or abuse. As kids might have a misunderstanding of the literature, which will affect their develop, therefore parents and the government should group up and classified different novels for different age group.

At last I think literature should be challenged, as life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all. Everything need to face different obstacles to become better. Therefore literature should always be challenged and also absorbed the useful advices suggested by different sides, to improved their qualities.

How and why we read

The reason why we read is because reading is actually a kind of entertainment, it helps us to relax and feel relieved from the busy society. Beside relaxing reading can also change a person's life, give the person a new way of thinking for example: myself.  When I read I put myself into the main character's situation and then I will start thinking in the main character's way.

I think reading is meant to be give people empathy. Reading can give what  people forget in the society. Reading is a way to remind people they have feeling and not a slave of work. This is why reading is so important, readers can put themselves into the characters when they read and to reflect their actions.

Similarly language is a key of life. It plays an important role to let different people to communicate and to express their own feelings Without language people will have no chance to understand each other, which will produce a great chaos to living. Reading and languages can both open people's mind and give them a new understand to themselves and others. This is why starting from kindergarden, teachers encourage us to read so much.

Finally I have a fully agreement to this video and I hope more and more people can realize the importance of reading.

The relevance of Shakespeare

I the google+ advertisement is concludes the life of Tom, and the how all the things are related. Similarly this is how Shakespeare relates to nowadays society. Shakespeare influenced so much into the  culture and the way of thinking. Shakespeare is a genius, despite the effort he put in the theaters and plays, he invented almost over 1700 words that we commonly use, such as addiction, advertising and jaded. He is one of the inventors of the English culture. In the way of thinking, many of the writers are under the shadows of Shakespeare, for example: Charles Dickens and Herman Melville.

All the world's a stage, and all the men and women are all players. In the google plus advertisement, Tom is the main character, the narrator concluded the stories of Tom and with google plus everybody can share their stories to all the people and to remind their empathy. That's what Shakespeare's doing to all his characters, he concluded life of Hamlet , Macbeth and other characters to remind people their feeling and premonition.

In short, Although Shakespeare gives us a hard time in class, but the words and thinking we get from him are priceless and unforgettable.

The power of literature

Books have been giving us lesson and lessons since we know how to read. However, as the new literature restriction coming out, so many fiction books are going to be restricted and banned to be used in school. On the other hand, there's only a limited of restriction the usage of guns in the states. Therefore,

Lets compare the usage of guns and books. On the positive side, we can use guns to protect ourselves, but on the opposite side, guns can also hurt other people or even take away other's life. In the recent decade, there's numerous guns accidents in different school campus and citys. Conversely fiction books give us a lot of information and develops our critical thinking skills. Beside developing ourselves, fiction books also give us a lot of good experience. I visited a kindergarden 2 years ago, and I couldn't forget how happy the small little kids were when they were reading the different classic fiction like three little pigs and the little red riding hood.

Stick and bones will break my bones and words will never hurt me. Guns can take away other's life and  books can develop a person's thinking and bring people to different journeys. I think the states should restrict the usage of guns instead of banning more and more boooks.

My Last post: " Dear Someone like me"

Dear someone like me,

2 years ago I made a very difficult choice, to study abroad. I have watched a movie recently,  Yes Man directed by Peyton Reed. Without driving the hobo to the park, Carl would have never met Allison. Similar to myself, without deciding study in Ridley, I would have never know how fun and big the world is. Coming to Ridley changed my life, my english improved, I tried a lot of new events and the most precious is I have known 3 good friends that changed my personalty and gave me incredible experience.

The first guy, I met in Ridley is Frank, my roommate. He's a genius, he got a ninety average with playing league of legends all day. We have been roommates for 2 years, and in these 2 years I have learned a lot from him. He taught me the way to think and to study, and of course, gaming.

The second one is David, an asian with perfect english. He lived next to my room last year. He came up to me first and greeted me. I have never seen a person that is as outgoing as him, later on we became best friends. We have watched so many movies and experienced so much together. He's like adam in workaholics, without him I would not dare to speak in english, without him I would not  know people like Angelo or Wilbert and especially the third person I want to mention, Jorge.

Jorge is the shyest person I have ever seen. He always speak in a very soft voice, but he is a perfect listener. Every time when I have any troubles, Jorge is the first person that comes up to my mind. No matter the problem is about, Jorge can always helps me to make a decision that suits me. We are both going to University of Waterloo next year, and we are definitely going to have a good time.

Finally a quote from 500 days of summer,"Coincidence, that's all anything ever is, nothing more than coincidence. Tom had finally learned there are no miracles. There's no such thing as fate, nothing is meant to be." Nothing is meant to be, there's no fate or miracles. Everybody is in charge of their own life. We have to plan or dictate our own life. Locking yourself in the room would never tell you how beautiful the world is.

Yours,
The someone after 2 years

The beauty of all literature

I do agree with Fitzgerald. Literature is a platform that everybody can understand each others.  When we are in read a book, we can realize we are not the only one that have a feeling about a character because when we read a book, many of us will put ourselves into the characters and to feel like them. Literature gives everybody a chance to know each other and learn from each other.

I think Universal Longing is the desire or opinion after we share with each other. I remember the first time I am having the universal longing with my friends is when we all watch 500 days of summer directed by Marc Webb. We all cried when Summer and Tom sit on the long bench and have the conversation at the very end of the movie. Later on we share our own thoughts and that's how universal longing appears. I would say it is very easy to have longing in literature, as when we read a literature we often substitute ourselves into the characters. Sharing our own thoughts to each other can help us to understand each other and to build up a larger impact of the movie to our memories, for example the novels we studied in school, we talked, we shared the literature. Therefore we got a bigger understanding to the novel and created a conversation between each other.

Dear Mr. Willy Wonka

Dear Mr. Willy Wonka from Charlie and the chocolate factory,

I will never forget you! Starting from grade 1, I have read about you, I always thought of you as one of the best friends. You are a man full of craziness and intelligence. All the candies you invented brought joy and happiness to all the people in the world. However, with the new US curriculum, I think the new students in there may never have a chance to meet you, and will never have the same lesson that I have learned from you.
With your story, I understood that good things come in small packages. Just like the chocolate bar inside the story, the single chocolate bar contains all of Charlie’s dreams. With the golden ticket inside the bar, it changed Charlie’s whole life. So no matter how small the thing is, it can make a grave impact on your life.
However, I think there’s nothing I can do with the new US curriculum. It is such a lost for the new students because they will never have a chance to learn anything from you. They can only study some solemn books and learn some knowledge that wouldn’t help them in their age.

Sincerely,
Art Tso

I am from Poems!

I am from the club that I can never talk about; I am from the club that no one can ask about; The final rule of my club is to fight if this is your first time at the club.

I am from the far history; I fought against the Persians with my men; I assembled free men stood against a tyrant, that few stood against many, and after the battle the world knew the word-SPARTA!

I am from Castle Rock; I heard there's a dead body at the end of the train tracks; Me and my friends sneaked out and stepped onto the journey that changed our lives.

I am from a long time ago in a galaxy far far away; I have a green midget to be my teacher, who lives in the clay; Don't join the dark side that what he always says

I am from a treacherous road, running from the cannibals and the cold. In this road we lack food and shelter, but the light of fire will always make us better.

I am from Hogwarts, a school of magic and wizardry. The shifting corridors and endless secrets hidden within the castle walls are endless. Our courage and will to fight the evil is restless.

I am from a regular 24 hrs general store; I like to imagine and like to draw; One day I woke up and I feel really bored; I freeze time to play, to  to explore.

I am from the nest of a cuckoo bird, but I am not a cuckoo bird. I am merely flying by, but I got trapped here with the cuckoos and eventually going to die.

Letter to the Bill Gates Foundation

5th February,2013
Dear Editor,
The America government is replacing American literature classics by insulation manuals or others books. In my opinion, it is a very bad idea. The main reason for having American literature classics, such as Great Gatsby, the Catcher in the Rye and others, is to persuade the student’s to read, or to enhance their imagination. Unfortunately with the new policy that will be up in 2014, pupil are being forced to study non-fiction text, which can only help them to learn some job skills, even though it is worthless for their childhood.
As a student studying in Canada, fiction books really help me in different criteria. Charlie and the chocolate factory helps me to build interest to English characters, De Niro’s Game told me the ironic of life, Da Vinci Code taught me to never give up to everything. Fiction books can also help pupils to develop their mental health. Although some people may say school should help the pupils to develop the ability to write concisely, which may help them in work when they get older, but wouldn’t mental health is more important than working skills.
In short, fiction shouldn’t be removed, because it's can help the new generation to be more well rounded, rather than just having working skills.

Sincerely,
Art Tso
